The Palace has long sporting connections, whether it is
hurling, football, rugby or horseracing.
A great place to be on match days; the upstairs
bar (open Tuesday - Sunday) has a strong sporting feel - resembled in its many photos,
jerseys and drawings, including one of a truly famous sports journalist. Read on.......

"Bill Aherne's popular Palace Bar, Fleet Street, Dublin was packed to the doors with
festive crowds when Bill hospitably filled the cup for the victorious Tipperary
hurling team recently.
Sean Kenny, Captain of the Tipperary hurlers, who defeated Kilkenny in the herculean 1950
final, was guest of honour at the celebrations. Our picture shows, left to right, Bill Aherne,
J. Harty and Sean Kenny, and Mary Ryan and Barney Shanahan (members of the reception committee).
Congratulations came from all sides and prominent among the well wishers were many Kilkenny
supporters, who paid tribute to a fine captain of a fine team".
Micheal Ó Muircheartaigh - Irish Sports Journalist "Pat Fox has it on his hurl and is motoring well now...
but here comes Joe Rabbit hot on his tail....I've see it all now. A rabbit chasing a fox around
Croke Park".
Con Holihan - Irish Sports Journalist "And while all this was going on, Mike Sheehy was running up
to take the kick - and suddenly Paddy dashed back towards his goal like a woman who smells a cake
burning". (Kerry V Dublin, All Ireland Football Final 1978)
Untainted and unspoilt by the passage of time - that's the Palace Bar.
